Repeated attack of painful swollen joints (big toe, feet, ankles most commonly), shiny red skin, joint stiffness, mild fever.
Gout is an inflammatory disease characterized by the increased accumulation of sodium salts of uric acid in the blood and mainly in the tissues surrounding the joints. The most common site of joint inflammation is the big toe joint, but can also occur in other joints like the knee, ankle, heel, etc.
Uric acid accumulation can be caused by a genetic predisposition, obesity, the consumption of foods and alcohol rich in uric acid and some medications. Special attention should be paid to proper diet and weight reduction. It is important to start a low uric acid diet after the first attack.
